Mock GPS — Privacy Policy

Mock GPS : Change Location lets you drop a test-location pin on a map and supply Android mock locations for app testing — only after you select Mock GPS under Developer Options. We do not operate accounts, ads, or analytics in the current release.

What we collect

We do not collect, upload to our servers, or sell your personal data. Mock GPS has no developer-operated backend.

• Saved places, recent places, last session duration, and active-session state are stored locally on your device in Android SharedPreferences.
• Successful place-search results are cached privately on your device for up to 24 hours (maximum 100 queries).
• Map tiles may be cached locally in the app cache while you view the map.
• No account, email, or login is required.
• No analytics or advertising SDKs in the current release.

Network use

The app uses the internet for map display and place search only. Requests may include:

• OpenStreetMap tiles (tile.openstreetmap.org) — map tile coordinates as you pan and zoom.
• Photon place search (photon.komoot.io) — text you enter for search and coordinates used for reverse lookup.
• Android Geocoder — if Photon is unavailable or returns no results, the same search input may be processed by your device’s built-in geocoding service.

We do not receive or store these requests on our own servers. Third-party tile and search providers may log requests according to their policies.

Location permission

• Foreground location — only when you tap the GPS button on the map to centre on your current position. The coordinate becomes your selected candidate and is not kept as an active or recent mock location unless you start a session.
• Background location — never requested.
• While a mock-location session is active, Android shows a persistent notification with a Stop action. Stopping the session removes Mock GPS’s test providers and restores normal location behaviour.

Other permissions

• Mock location — required so Android lists Mock GPS in Developer Options as the mock-location app.
• Notifications — to show the active-session notification.
• Foreground service — to run user-initiated mock-location sessions while the notification is visible.
• Internet — for map tiles and place search as described above.

Third-party services

Current version: No ads and no developer analytics. Map tiles and place search rely on the third-party services listed above.

Future updates: If we add optional ads or other online features, we will update this page before they ship.

Children's privacy

Mock GPS does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We will update this page if our data practices change.
